Custom Kitchens

Custom designed kitchens are the best possible kitchen available. There are many forms of "custom-made" kitchens, but the truth is there are very few operators who actually make the genuine article. A true custom kitchen starts with a designer who is only limited by what can be physically made or produced.

Other than for this practical limitation, a good custom kitchen designer can then completely tailor the design to suit the requirements and the space (taking into account any other design constraints such as fixed window and door positions). A good designer will also factor in possible changes to wall and window placements as this can provide for a far better result in the design and long term use of the kitchen.

Following from this design, there now needs to be the capability in the production side of a company to be able to produce what has been designed. This is where most companies today fall out of the category of producing true custom kitchens. The reason is that most of the industry produces modular and mass produced cabinets either in part or whole, and these do not allow much scope in design.

A true custom kitchen producer can provide flexibility in all three dimensions of the product and then also match hardware to these changes. For example modular producers can give a deeper benchtop by moving base cabinets out from the wall but drawer depths (and internal depths of the cabinets) would remain the same. At Danish designer kitchens there are drawer depths available to suit benchtop depths up to 750mm which can utilize all of the space.
